Being a winner: scriptural signposts for winners

1. (Phil 4:13 KJV) I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.

Many people read these words but the secret is in believing what the words are saying. This belief brought to the writer Paul a reality that was his world. One of the great secrets of life is that we CHOOSE the world we live in.

Doesn’t matter if we think and choose wisely or we don’t think and let it happen; each one of us makes a choice.

If you choose a joyful, winning life, that’s what you get. If we choose misery we get that too.

What we believe is the machinery that gets us to where we want to go. It’s hard to know if our beliefs are true or false but one thing can be done. Test them and if they work and make our lives richer and make us better people such beliefs may well be true. But the key word is “DO” If we fail to do the result is nothing.

Remember that ideas can be develop other possibilities and open doors leading to more learning.

So this is our first Christian belief … “I can do ALL THINGS through Christ”

2. (Psa 37:23 KJV) The steps of a good person are ordered by the LORD.

When things happen remember that everything happens for a reason and because the Lord is guiding us there is something in that happening that is for us personally. To be guided necessitates listening to the guide. Make time to hear God’s voice

Successful people are those who can pick out what is possible in the happening and see the positive results that can come from it. No matter how bad things look or how much negative things are getting, successful people think in terms of possibilities. There is something here for me … somewhere in this mess there is a seed that will bring reward for me. Yes, a setback can hurt, but the winners look for the seed of better things inside the setback situation. They are possibility thinkers.

How about your beliefs??? Do you expect your best efforts to be successful, or do you expect them to be messed up. Do you see the good things or the problems.

Winners are people who go into a desert and see a garden, who look at a mess and see a chance to design a new layout, who lose a race and see a chance to do better and win next time. They are possibility thinkers

3. (Rom 8:37 KJV) in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loves us.

There is no such thing as failure there are only results.

So many of us are “afraid” of failure. This is a nasty trick to put us off the track of possibility thinking.

The truth is that there are just OUTCOMES or RESULTS and that’s what winners see. They never see failure because they just don’t believe in it. Failure is just a nonsense.

Always, always always, there is some sort of result. If it’s not what you want, then you have learnt something. Then use what you have learned to take new actions and produce a new result.

The 64-dollar question is … “What would you attempt to do if you knew you could not fail??”

Make up an answer to this question. Don’t you think you might make up a whole new lot of ways of living and doing. Wouldn’t you be better of trying these new ways? So go to it!

Every result is an experience and every experience a springboard for new action

Winners don’t have failures …winners have results and outcomes.

4. (Gal 6:4-5 NIV) Each one should test his own actions. Then he can take pride in himself, without comparing himself to somebody else, for each one should carry his own load.

We often hear winners say, “I am responsible, I’ll take care of it” They believe and rightly so, that no matter what happens, good or bad they are responsible. (That they created the situation) Each one must carry his/her own load is how the writer of Galations has put it. Take control of your life in behaviour and in thought, or the wind of life will blow you about like an autumn leaf. (Things will just happen to you) Being responsible is for our personal lives also. Many of us just react to other people … if they get mad; we get mad and blame them for all the negative they try to dump on us. The fact is that what you say, or said, may have been the trigger that started it all. It’s up to you to change your behaviour, your tone of voice, your facial expression and so on. What you are transmitting is a total thing. Keep the responsibility for what goes on and you keep the power to change the situation and get the result you require..

Winners run their lives, they don’t let life run them. They take responsibility for ALL that happens to them. They live by the rule … “I am responsible, I’ll take care of it”

5. (Mat 5:16 KJV) Let your light shine before humankind

With winners everything they do radiates an expression of their radiant life. The secret most have is that for them work is play. Winners manage to marry all that they do with what they love. You will enrich your world if you bring to all of life the curiosity and vitality you bring to your play. living and working is FUN.

A great artist once said, “When I work, I relax. Doing nothing makes me tired.”

Winners love and energise all of their life. Everything that is to be done is a chance to shine.

6. (Ps 119:66 KJV) Teach me good judgment and knowledge.

It’s not necessary to understand everything to be able to use everything. Winners have good judgement about the vast store of knowledge available. They are “time misers” They are very good at picking between what is necessary for them to know and what is not. You can spend all your time studying the roots or you can learn to pick the fruit. If you MUST know, then be sure it is a must, and learn it. But don’t waste precious time in unneeded detail and unnecessary polish. Successful people are not necessarily those who know the most information or have the prettiest plan. Winners are the ones who get results.

Winners use good judgement and use knowledge wisely. They are “time misers”

7. (John 13:34 NIV) A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another.

Outstanding people almost always have a respect and appreciation for people. They have a sense of team, a sense of common purpose. Winners are most effective in saying to others; “How can we do this better?” “How can we fix this?” “How can we get better results?” They have a way of putting things that appreciates the contribution of others.

Winners know that other people are their greatest resource.

8. (Phil 3:14 KJV) I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.

Success abides with those who make a commitment. Its the stick at it, never give up, never ease off, give it all you have attitude. Winners are the ones who are prepared to do whatever it takes to succeed. They play harder, they practise harder, and they know where they are going and keep on refining their goals.

Winners are willing to pay the price … “Whatever it takes.”
